College student brings llama in tuxedo to his sister's wedding
A wedding in Ohio had an odd visitor. It was a llama.
Mendl Weinstock brought a llama to his sister's wedding. He got the idea 5 years ago.
It began with a promise he made. Then it turned into a joke.
Weinstock is 21 years old. He goes to the University of Akron in Ohio. He came up with an unusual
idea for his sister, Riva.
In 2015, they were on a car trip. Riva was talking about her wedding. She talked about it "as if it
was going to happen the next day," Weinstock said. He said it bothered him.
The only way he would go to her wedding was with a llama, he said. They did not know when it
might be.
A Promise in the Making
Riva was 17 years old then. She did not plan to get married anytime soon. His talk about the llama
bothered her, too. She finally said he could bring a llama.
In October 2019, Riva got engaged. Weinstock started his plan to bring a llama.
On March 1, Weinstock stuck to his promise and brought a llama to the wedding.
How A Llama Walked Into A Wedding
"Ever since that day I have promised her I would bring a llama," he said. "I fulfilled that promise."
Weinstock rented a llama. It was named Shockey. The cost for a day was $400.
He got a friend to sew a suit for the llama. The llama had a yarmulke, too. The yarmulke is a cap
Jewish men often wear.
Riva was shocked at first, Weinstock said. Still, she liked "that I kept my promise from 5 years
ago," he said.
They stayed in front of the building and took photos with guests. Shockey was not allowed inside.
The llama stayed outside.
Someone shared a photo online. It showed Riva and her brother with the llama. The photo was
popular online.
Weinstock is glad people like the photo.
He did not think it would get so much attention. "I am loving it," he said.
